A remarkable piece of history, this unique cabinet tells the story of 19th century travel. Originally three separate coach trunks, this ingenious piece stacks together to create a striking storage cupboard. In an era when families traveled by horse-drawn coach, these trunks carried their belongings between country estates - now cleverly transformed into one impressive cabinet.

Each of the three sections retains its original carrying handles and working locks, a reminder of its journey from trunk to furniture. Made from solid pine with a beautifully weathered painted finish in soft blue-grey tones, the wood shows authentic age and character from over a century of use.

This estate cupboard works beautifully as a wardrobe, linen press, or storage cabinet. The rustic finish and historic character make it perfect for country homes, farmhouse interiors, or anyone who appreciates furniture with a genuine story.

A truly unique conversation piece with authentic 19th century heritage.

Condition

This piece is in good overall condition considering its age of over 150 years. The cupboard demonstrates honest, age-appropriate wear consistent with a genuine antique piece from the 19th century. The blue-grey paint shows natural wear with areas of paint loss revealing earlier color layers beneath, particularly visible on the sides and edges. Surface crackling and minor flaking are present, typical of historic painted furniture.
The carcass appears structurally sound with no visible warping or major structural damage. The piece retains its original form with both upper and lower sections intact. Panel construction shows some natural movement and minor gaps consistent with aged timber responding to environmental changes over 150+ years. The unfinished interior reveals significant wear patterns from historical use. The natural pine or softwood interior shows:

Notable wear marks and patina on shelving surfaces
Darkened areas from accumulated dirt and handling
Evidence of historic woodworm activity (inactive holes)
Natural aging and discoloration of the wood
Minor splitting and checking of interior boards

Original iron hardware remains in place. The hinges are functional. Original escutcheons and ring pulls survive, displaying authentic period metalwork with dark patination.

Please note: This is a used antique piece sold as-is with no returns accepted.
